Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers is a real-time strategy game which is focused almost exclusively on squad combat. There is no ore or energy to harvest and the only resource in need of management is the soldiers themselves. Players can control up to three squadrons, each containing a leader, as many as five soldiers, and (optionally) a specialist to help heal soldiers, repair equipment, or perform reconnaissance. Psych specialists, who can detect and sometimes control hidden enemies, are also extremely useful in certain missions. While one squad is in the field performing a mission, the wise player may choose to keep the rest of his soldiers in reserve, just in case the active soldiers need back up or meet a quick, unexpected demise. Like the movie of the same name, Starship Troopers is based on the controversial 1959 science-fiction novel by Robert Heinlein. Troopers don powered armor and use advanced weapons to combat an evil and prolific arachnid-like alien race commonly known as the bugs. 15 different enemy bugs show up in this game. The 3D characters do battle in true 3D landscapes that range from grassy plains to artic snowfields; some battles even take place around or in the player's own home base. The game offers 20 missions in all, with the first six or seven based very closely on the original story and the subsequent missions developing a parallel storyline of their own as the game moves forward.
